Now is the Time for Investment in Africa

Despite being rich in natural reserves Africa remains big importer of refined products.

Meeting changes in product demand and specification remain a challenge

The past decade has seen a big increase in exploration accessibility and new discoveries – making Africa rich in natural reserves. However, in order to meet changes in product demand and specification, the region remains one of the largest importers of refined products due to an ageing infrastructure.

In response many new projects have been proposed ranging from upgrades and modernisation through to entirely new Greenfield refineries. However, many have suffered financial and technological difficulties.

It is clear that now is the time for investment in the African downstream industry, as steady progress towards increased capacity and new products is needed. Join us in Cape Town where you will meet with your peers from across Africa to share ideas and experiences with other refiners and suppliers.

Now is the time for a dedicated African downstream event - PARTC Annual Meeting

The PARTC Annual Meeting will bring together senior refining and petrochemical professionals to discuss the future landscape of refining in Africa. Attendees will explore investment opportunities and challenges to meet upgrading and maintenance needs. Plus, get updates on developments in cutting edge refining technologies and processes.

Just some of the wide-ranging topics to be discussed include:

  • Implementing processes to reduce air pollutant emissions in preparation for tighter emissions caps
  • The financial incentives for hydrocracking catalysts in African refineries
  • Novel approaches to sulphur recovery - implementation and advantages
  • Innovative chemical treatment strategies for processing opportunity crudes and a review of co-processing and blending Fisher-Tropsch syncrude with conventional crude
  • Design and implementation of efficient safety measures and procedures to improve reliability
  • Assessment of the investment needs in Africa and an overview of the sources for financing
