2017 Condensate Forum To Highlight IMO 2020 Sulphur Cap Issues on Condensate Shipping and Refining Trends

Industry Specialists From Leading Condensate Producers & Buyers to Address the 21st Annual Condensate & Naphtha Forum 2017 in Penang, Malaysia

Industry specialists from leading condensate producers, buyers, refiners & shippers will address the 21st Annual Condensate and Naphtha Forum which will be held in Penang, Malaysia from 9-10 November 2017 at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa.

An annual review of the condensate & naphtha industry will be presented by Co-Chairmen, Dr Fereidun Fesharaki, Chairman, Mr Colin Shelley, Managing Consultant, and Dr Jeffrey Brown, President of FGE, encompassing the state of the oil & gas markets with the impact of US & OPEC on oil prices, the oil demand landscape in terms of competing energy sources and market dynamics of condensate supply and demand, setting the tone for the Forum under its theme “State of the Condensate & Naphtha Markets: Extracting Value.”

Three Keynotes on 9 November will feature presentations from Iran, Australia & Malaysia. Iran & Australia represent the two key countries which are driving condensate supply growth. Mr S Khoshrou, Director of International Affairs, NIOC International and Member of the Board, National Iranian Oil Company will be presenting Iran’s condensate production and consumption; Mr Shigeharu Yajima, SVP, Global Energy Marketing, Inpex Corporation, Japan will be giving Australia’s condensate outlook from the Ichthys Project; and Mr M Yusri M Yusuf, Vice President of Refining & Trading, Petronas, Malaysia will be examining condensate splitter outlook & challenges.

US crude, condensate & shale developments will be the focus of two presentations by Mr Rusty Braziel, President, RBN Energy, USA and Mr Sebastien Bariller, SVP Feedstock Purchasing, Energy & Optimization Business Unit, Hanwha Total Petrochemicals, Korea, who will examine the production surge in the US and outlook for exports.

Mr Geir Mjelde, CEO, SKS, Norway and Mr John Vautrain, Founder & CEO, Vautrain & Co Pte Ltd, Singapore, will contribute to the Forum’s special highlight on the impact of IMO 2020 sulphur cap regulations and whether the move towards scrubbers, scrapping of older vessels and the possible enhanced use of LNG will affect condensate & naphtha markets, as well as product waterborne trade and clean product tankers.

Other speakers at the 2-day event which is an important annual industry gathering include: Dr Frederic Lasserre, Director of Market Analysis, Total SA, France, Mr Yasuaki Suzuki, Senior Operating Officer, Energy Division, Marubeni Corporation, Japan, Mr Takeshi Arazeki, LPG, CPP, Chemical Team, Tanker Group, NYK Line, Japan & other prominent speakers from industry players who are expected to join the Forum in the run up to the event (www.condensateforum.com).

Dr Fesharaki remarked, “Condensate markets continue to be dominated by supplies from Iran, Qatar and Australia, while demand is rising in the region, heavily concentrated in Korea. The delay in Iran’s PGS splitters and rising gas production from South Pars, have resulted in more condensate supplies than the market expected. Meanwhile, some Eagle Ford streams are finding their way to the market.”

“Naphtha markets are tightening as new olefin and aromatics capacity comes online in Asia and the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia. Robust petrochemical margins are presently driving high cracker utilization rates both in the Atlantic Basin and East of Suez. Lower oil prices have been a boon to petrochemical demand and interest in grassroots projects and expansions remains strong. In the long term, Asia will remain the engine of growth in global petchem demand and the region’s naphtha imports will continue to grow despite the looming threat from competing fuels.”

The Forum continues to draw the elite of the global condensate and naphtha markets for knowledge sharing and networking. Last year's Forum in Dubai attracted delegates from 21 countries and 27 cities, with the largest attendance from Singapore, the UAE, Qatar, Korea, Iran & the UK.

Since its launch, the Condensate & Naphtha Forum has enjoyed the patronage of national oil companies in gas producing regions including Emirates National Oil Company, Petronas, PTT Public Company Ltd, Pertamina, Qatar Petroleum, SKK Migas, and Tasweeq. Over its history, in the 1996-2016 time frame, the Forum has attracted an international audience from 110 cities and 45 countries.
