The Hydrogen Business Development and Project Management Lead will report to the Hydrogen Business Development Manager – North America and work primarily on business development by supporting the development of hydrogen mobility projects. The successful candidate will also support the Global Hydrogen Operations Manager, when required, by carrying successful projects through implementation with project management.

We are looking for a person with this combination of commercial and project management skills, and a passion for the development of New Fuels. This critical role bridges between the Business Development and Operations organizations, ensuring continuity and flexibility in the organization for excellence in project development and implementation for transition into operations.

The successful applicant will work closely with local and global colleagues in the growing hydrogen organization.

The role will be located in San Francisco, California in the Shell New Energies office in the TransAmerica building at 600 Montgomery Street.

Accountabilities

Develop business opportunities in line with the strategic plan to grow the hydrogen refueling footprint in North America:
 
  • Lead and support specific business development opportunities, from Identify to Execute, with hand over to Operations Team to Operate. Craft the opportunity according to required stage gates, then ensure delivery.
  • Coordinate and work closely with the global hydrogen team, including Hydrogen Business Development Manager – North America and the Global Hydrogen Operations organization, to effectively screen opportunities, realize innovation for cost reduction, and ensure excellence in handovers from business development to implementation to operation.
  • Work closely with OEMs to ensure coordination with their vehicle introduction plans, take into account their concerns on hydrogen refueling stations, and to build up the number of hydrogen vehicles using the stations.
  • Work on building a hydrogen supply chain including centralized and distributed hydrogen production. Work closely with potential hydrogen suppliers, leverage Shell Contracting and Procurement (C&P), to provide hydrogen at competitive prices to hydrogen retail stations.
 
Support project implementation as needed through effective project management to ensure delivery safely, on budget and schedule, with successful handover into operations:
 
  • Support or Deliver retail asset development projects (hydrogen refueling stations) through Project Implementation Management. Delivery must be in line with Group HSSE guidelines especially the Group Control Framework, within budget, and on time and in close cooperation with Retail.
  • Ensure delivery of assurance process, budget management, schedule, and interfaces with the Shell organization and contractors.
  • Support or Manage all project reporting, including external requirements for invoicing of grant funds reimbursement.
  • Support or Manage HSSE audits and all other inspections during installation, commissioning, and start-up phases of implementation.
  • Contribute to project management and safety documentation and development.
  • Contribute to P&ID reviews of suppliers and contractors, participate in the technical improvement of hydrogen stations (reliability, safety, root cause analysis of failures, cost reduction innovation).
  • Ensure compliance with the Shell HSSE policies of all companies which work for us.
