District Manager

Reports to: Region Manager



Serves as the leader and oversees the operations in a given geographic area.  Staffs store management positions, trains managers and ensures that all stores operate in compliance with Company policies and Federal, State and Local laws; Demonstrates and promotes the principles of a retail environment; Embraces and communicates the elements of the Company's customer service initiatives.


  • Provides leadership/direction for assigned district.  Ultimately responsible for District performance and execution of company goals and objectives
  • Oversees the training, scheduling and coaching of employees to ensure all store positions are staffed to appropriately handle all Customer Service needs
  • Ensures that employees follow all Company policies as detailed in the Operations Manual, and in compliance with Federal, State and local laws
  • Supports and communicates various customer service initiatives
  • Fields customer service compliments/complaints and responds to them in a timely manner
  • Works in conjunction with other departments and utilizes the resources available to assist in making appropriate business decisions
  • Acts as support to store management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  If not available, ensures that a reliable back-up has been provided
  • Conducts interviews, makes employment decisions, including but not limited to, hiring, coaching, evaluating, scheduling, training and disciplining as needed
  • Ensures that all necessary district paperwork, including performance appraisals, coaching, P & L reviews, financial tracking, and other various reports as deemed necessary to the business are completed in a timely fashion
  • Promotes staff retention by working to develop leaders/staff, empower employees and encourage increased employee productivity
  • Ensures all stores are performing and supervising all minor maintenance tasks in order to eliminate inconvenience to the customer
  • Responds quickly to all emergencies for the safety and security of customers and employees and notifies the appropriate individuals
  • Updates and maintains the Gas survey grids; Supports and executes Marketing Initiatives/survey and other required surveys as needed
  • Performs necessary loss control activities within district including, but not limited to, audit action plans, loss clipboard review, cash audits, cigarette audits, item level compliance, inventory management practices and write-off controls
  • Demonstrates a high value for Health, Environment, Safety and Security issues, initiatives and programs in both personal and organizational responsibilities
  • Completes other duties as assigned by Region Management

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience

Experience Requirements:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Retail experience a plus

Skill Requirements:

  • Experience with Word, Excel, and other MS Office suite applications
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to research and resolve issues
  • Good understanding of the various department functions, store operations and corporate budgets
  • Knowledge of retail business management practices
  • Ability to perform repeated bending, standing, and reaching
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds

Additional Requirements:

  • Available to work a variety of shifts and/or days of the week consistent with the demands of the retail environment
  • Must have a valid Driver's License from the state in which District Manager resides
  • Must maintain automotive liability insurance during course of employment
  • Must maintain cellphone and data plan to accommodate the demands of the business

  • Provides advice and guidance to less experienced professionals or other personnel as situations require
