The Analyzer Engineer is a member of the Process Automation Control & Optimization (PACO) Team within the Convent Refinery Technology Department.  The Analyzer Engineer is responsible for the technical assurance of the site’s on-line process analyzers.  This includes supporting capital projects in design development, supporting Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Tests, and successful commissioning of new analyzers.  This position is the site focal point for technical assistance regarding existing on-line analyzers.  This position is not assigned to a process module, but works with production team members in PACO to support the entire site.  Some interface with the site lab is expected for comparing lab results with online analyzer measurements; however, this role has no direct laboratory responsibilities.  The analyzer engineer is the site focal point for Optical Technology Analyzers, including Raman and TDL, and works integrally with APC engineers to identify and implement margin improvements utilizing Analyzer technology.  This role approves and/or initiates Management of Change (MOC) for activities related to the analyzer/QMI area, assuring compliance to internal and external standards. 

Additional Responsibilities:          

• Recommend equipment upgrades and replacements when situations warrant.  Ex: issues with maintainability, obsolescence, loss of vendor support, more effective technological breakthroughs, etc.
• Establishing and maintaining location specifications, PM library and detailed PM text (procedures) for analyzers/QMIs.
• Determines analyzer equipment target performance and implement programs/procedures to maintain high availability of this equipment.
•  As related to analyzers, engage in Shell’s work processes for MEC-Managed Equipment Care, RCM-Reliability Centered Maintenance, & MTA-Mitigating Threats to Availability.  Manages the site’s analyzer bad actor program.
• Represents the site in corporate Analyzer Engineering Activities, including QMI Technical Network and Raman Spectroscopy Technical network.
• Works with Production teams to help problem solve existing analyzer issues and recommends new applications to optimize unit functions.  Participates in investigations related to analyzers and product quality incidents.
• Conducts new analyzer technology prototype tests and keep the asset QMIs to current standards on new and Shell-approved technology.
• Works closely with Analyzer Integration Shop(s) to ensure Quality Assurance and Quality Control of analyzer systems e.g. sample conditioning systems, analyzer buildings.
• Principal analyzer focal point for new or replacement analyzer installations and guides contractor personnel assigned to analyzer projects as needed.
