The Welder Journeyman - Ponca City Refinery works in the maintenance departments of various business units within the refinery. This position may have a variety of differing titles depending on the site, such as mechanic, electrician, craftsman, repairman, apprentice, etc.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Reading prints and fit up for fabrication

  • Welding X-ray quality welds on piping and structural steel. Materials consist of various alloys such as carbon steel stainless steel and chrome

  • Laying out, punching, bending and fabrication and erection of structural iron and steel work such as beams, walking and working platforms, ladder and ladder cages

  • Will be required to work overtime when needed.

  • Must be able to pass two pipe welding tests prior to employment offer consisting of:

  • Weld 6" carbon steel pipe using the SMAW process in the 6G position

  • Weld 2" carbon steel pipe using the GTAW process in the 6G position

Required Qualifications

 
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must possess an Oklahoma Welder Certification card

  • Must be able to use an oxy-acetylene cutting torch, arc gouger and plasma cutter

  • 3 or more years of experience in the following welding processes:

  • SMAW (stick)

  • GTAW (tig)

  • GMAW (mig)

  • FCAW (flux core)

  • Oxy-Acetylene Cutting

  • 3 or more years of direct welding experience in structural steel, X-ray pipe welding and blueprint reading/piping drawings

  • Must be willing to enter enclosed spaces, climb ladders up to 250 feet, and lift 50 lbs

  • Maintain a valid driver's license

  • Must currently hold or are able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic .

Preferred :

  • Ability to operate forklifts and man lifts

  • Three or more years of direct experience in a refinery or chemical industry

  • Safety oriented with desire to understand and work within all refinery safety policies

  • Ability to work in a team environment

The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
