Reporting to the manager, mine equipment maintenance, you will be accountable for safely and efficiently improving production within the mine equipment maintenance department. You will provide leadership and direction to journeymen, specialists and labourers.

  • Ensure that a well-adapted approach to safety is present in our team
  • Administer the collective agreement and personnel policies in a fair and consistent manner
  • Hold monthly shift safety meetings with review and follow up on items raised to ensure remedial action is taken
  • Adhere to all permit and lockout procedures
  • Investigate all incidents, follow up to prevent re-occurrence and create incident reports
  • Identify and report current and potential hazards and review with shift members
  • Set work expectations and performance levels with employees and provide timely and relevant feedback
  • Perform the functions within the SAP computerized maintenance system to correctly document, approve and assign the work that is performed on shift
  • Perform program maintenance work assigned by planning and scheduling to be performed during each shift

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of leadership experience in mobile maintenance or fixed plant maintenance or operations
  • Experience working with or operating heavy haul trucks, auxiliary equipment or shovels would be an asset
  • Journeyman certification, engineering degree or technical diploma or certificate
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Computer proficiency specifically in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Knowledge of the mining industry and technology with hydraulic and electric shovels, haul trucks and support equipment
  • Proficient in directing and leading within a unionized work environment
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function in a dynamic work environment 
  • You continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
  • You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
