Reporting to the mining area manager, you will be responsible for achieving safety and production targets in accordance with the prescribed daily plans, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure the safety of personnel working within the assigned area and ensure that process and policies are followed during operations
  • Supervise a multi-skilled, unionized workforce within the context of the collective agreement
  • Ensure compliance with all workplace rules, procedures and occupational health and safety codes
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure equipment is repaired in an efficient manner
  • Work closely with shift trainers to confirm skill sets and training requirements are being met
  • Collaborate with the production dispatchers to ensure there is minimal disruption to the mine plan
  • Verify the proper completion of work assignments, and investigate incidents and near misses with a view towards positive action through training or proper equipment setup
  • Support mine operations technical support groups including the mine planning, survey, geotechnical and geology groups

Required Qualifications

  • Combined 10 years of supervisory and heavy equipment operating experience in an open pit mine environment
  • Experience as a supervisor in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Alberta Mine Safety Association (AMSA) certification
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Computer proficiency, specifically in Modular Mining, Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety rules, regulations and guidelines
  • Strong social skills with the ability to work closely with others at various levels within the company
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
