Reporting to the lead, control systems, you will work within the automation team and provide technical support to operations, maintenance and other partners.


  • Adhere and apply our safety policies, standards and values in the execution of your work
  • Configure, program, solve problems and maintain our existing Emerson Delta V DCS/SIS and Rockwell process control systems
  • Maintain the control system infrastructure including system administration, cyber security, hot fixes, patches, virus definition updates and back-ups
  • Ensure alarm and critical interlock bypass management
  • Support the commissioning and start-up of project-related activities
  • Ensure the timely resolution of technical issues and technical support requests from other partners
  • Improve and optimize our control systems reliability and performance through continuous improvement initiatives and techniques
  • Develop and or support automation best practices, standards and guidelines
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior engineers in their development

Required Qualifications

 
  • Eight to 10 years of experience in process control systems configuration, maintenance and support in an operating plant environment
  • Experience in configuration, troubleshooting and maintaining the Emerson Delta V or similar platforms and /or plant network communication systems; experience with Honeywell TDC and Experion platforms is an asset
  • Experience in configuration, solving problems and maintaining communications between various control systems using industrial communication protocols like OPC and Modbus
  • Bachelor degree in a related engineering discipline
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Demonstrated proficiency in digital buses such as Foundation Fieldbus, Profi-Bus and Modbus
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Ether Net/IP, Device Net, OPC and regulatory and discrete controls, including motor controls, variable frequency drives, safety instrumented systems, field sensors, final control elements, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in the preparation and review of control deliverables, such as control narratives, logic diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Familiar with networks, switches, fiber back-bone and other control system infrastructures and process control network security
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to make decisions with integrity and support company objectives and policies
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible applicants
