The individual will support the change initiatives that will impact WONA (World outside North America) & North America Hydrocarbon teams in FOH Chennai. This team with 400+ FTEs primarily supports Trading and Supply business for Shell with sub processes/ teams covering activities that include Trading Financial Services, Trade Settlements Process, Stock Recording/Reconciliation; Stock Valuation; HM Payables, Refinery Mass Balance.

The Hydrocarbon teams have gone through the stabilization and have delivered very good performance. In this regard, the existing processes, organization and technology need to be periodically reviewed and improved in a way that will suit to the environment and meet challenges ahead. These challenges include maintaining strong discipline around risk, controls and process compliance, eliminating inefficient and manual processes and delivering continuous improvement solutions (example – Low Cost Automation) that meets process/business standards. This role will support the team in developing the right change, communication and engagement plans, its execution while consistently keeping operational delivery to a high standard.


Currently the organization has around 400+ FTEs in Chennai & KL. Staff levels are changing due to migrations in and out and system implementations.
Lines of Business covers entire WONA, North America Hydrocarbon businesses and JVs including Deer Park, SOPUS, Manufacturing, Distribution/Pipeline, Trading & Supply, Chemicals & LNG

Required Qualifications

 
Tasks include but are not limited to the following –
  • Support the Digital Transformation Agenda for FOH, understand the impact and work towards implementation using automation platforms
  • Work closely with Process Manager & Process Owner, Change Managers network, CI and HR/L&D to ensure global alignment and smooth implementation and transition organization-wide
  • Breakdown End to End process to identify automation/improvement opportunities and create automation/transformation roadmap for a process/ activity
  • Apply change management concepts and methodologies to develop strategy and change management plan including communication plan, coaching / training plan, resistance management plan and benefit tracking process
  • Assess the change impact, diagnose needs and facilitate change interventions with appropriate stakeholders
  • Identify potential risks and anticipated points of resistance, develop specific plans to mitigate or address the concerns
  • Improve process efficiency by enabling operations to focus on the delivery of exceptional customer service
  • Develop and manage the delivery of communication plan for planned changes
  • Develop strategy to reduce resistance and acceptance of change in various circumstances and cultures to address uncertainties surrounding the change and promote a positive acceptance of change
  • Contribute to building future organization design and drive robust people management planning in local team (developing skills/competence/job profile for future positions)
  • Support local leadership team in managing change impact on staff and position planning
  • Deliver support to HC management at all levels (through coaching, mentoring and training) to assist them to become change sponsors for their respective teams and to ensure smooth transition
  • Coach others on behaviors and actions to support change, key role of leaders and change sponsors during the change journey resulting in effective and visible change leading.
  • People Capability Development Work/support extensively towards developing FOH people agenda which develops people towards competent, smart and more focused towards enhanced influencing skills, ability to capture process gaps and address using various methodologies available with L&D and in market.

The aim of the Shell Business Operations, Chennai is to provide the Group with operational excellence through highlighting and utilizing process improvements and functional efficiencies as well as by leveraging economies of scale. Currently, the Chennai centre provides a wide range of finance, accounting and business services to Shell operating companies across several business sectors globally.

Set up in September 2007, the Chennai centre has grown rapidly and now , in its fourth year of operations , it has crossed the 1600 staff mark. The centre is located in the  RMZ Millennia Business Park, where the Shell campus is a LEED Platinum building with world class infrastructure. The business is expected to grow further over the next two years and infrastructural additions to support this have been planned.

The main focus in Chennai is on Finance Operations which supports delivery of the global Finance functional plan. There is also a ‘Downstream India’ - Customer Services Team that handles lubricant depot ordering within the country. The Shell Business Operations (SBO Team) manages the centre facilities and supports business partners’ operations on site. There is a strong focus at SBO on safety & well being of staff and on its three core values: Compliance, Intervention & Respect.
