The Sr. Reliability Engineer (RE) improves operational reliability within the areas assigned through ensuring the implementation of asset reliability elements as described in the Reliability Management Framework and Site Reliability Improvement Strategy. The Sr. RE is a thought leader and will mentor, coach, and train others to advocate High Reliability Organizing principles and behaviors, proactive defect elimination, and long term threat resolution. The selected individual will lead interdisciplinary teams to devise and implement systemic solutions for operational and technical issues. This individual must be able to work closely with all engineering disciplines, crafts, and operators in order to create a proactive defect elimination mindset. This cross-functional perspective provides the opportunity to participate and influence in almost all aspects of the plant operation.

Accountabilities
This position reports administratively to the Reliability Manager, and receives functional work direction from the Production Unit Manager of the assigned area. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Supports GOAL ZERO by actively participating in HSSE activities throughout the site, personally adhering to all requirements, and leveraging reliability tools and improvements to reduce Personal safety Process Safety risk at the site.
  • Champion the Mitigate Threats to Availability (MTA) work process as the focal point for the assigned Production Team to assure threats are effectively and consistently identified, risk assessed, prioritized, and mitigated. Develop and maintain visual aids to show top threats and their mitigation status.
  • Behave as a leader in Production Team meetings to improve effectiveness, advocate understanding and resolution of causes vs symptoms, remove barriers to progress, etc.
  • Leads (or participates in) Causal Learning, Root Cause Analysis, or 5-why incident investigations
  • Analyze plant reliability performance data (production losses, equipment history, etc), identify improvement opportunities, and recommend appropriate action to methodically improve Production Team and site wide reliability.
  • Apply Reliability Engineering Principles, practices, and tools appropriate to the situation including but not limited to: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA),Causal Learning investigation techniques, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA),Event Tree Analysis (ETA),Monte Carlo simulation and Reliability Block Diagram (RBD),Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), Weibull analysis, etc.
  • Mentor the Production Team Support Engineer for the assigned Production Team.
  • Ensure reliability is integrated into unit Turnaround planning and execution
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to devise and implement sustainable solutions for operational and technical issues including Bad Actors, Chronic, Systemic, and site wide threats.
  • In addition to Production Team responsibilities, each RE will be assigned various site wide initiatives / focal point roles such as GUS focal point, infrastructure strategy development, obsolescence strategy development, Asset Management Strategy focal point, integration of reliability with other work processes (RCM, ME, etc).
  • Network with other Reliability Engineers, Projects & Technology, Process Engineers, Discipline Engineers, and industry groups to develop and implement Best Practices
  • No direct reports, but is a Mentor to the PTSE
  • Coach Production Team members to drive proactive defect elimination mindset
  • SAP profile to query and search equipment repair history
