Reporting to the manager, engineering and construction, you will be responsible for executing multiple concurrent retail development capital projects on time and on budget, from initial scoping through, design, execution, commissioning and close-out, with a focus on delivering project value. Our group is responsible for the design and construction of all retail service stations (operating under the Petro-Canada brand), highway travel centres, wholesale cardlocks (including the Petro-Pass network) and bulk plants.

  • Define and execute projects using a stage-gate project management model including the deliverables; set and manage costs and schedule, and stakeholders while adhering to our journey to zero safety mindset
  • Lead multi-disciplinary retail development projects from inception through commissioning and handover to operations, while finding opportunities to reduce risk and costs to enhance asset reliability, safety and environmental performance
  • Coordinate all technical design documents and drawings, working with in-house drafting personnel and outside consultants
  • Obtain municipal, regional or provincial permits for constructions projects, including applicable service connections
  • Manage, track and report on project status (project estimating, scheduling, risk management)
  • Perform technical reviews and evaluations of engineered drawings, reports and proposals, and equipment design and specification
  • Manage project procurement of Suncor-supplied goods and services (material take-offs, SAP requisitions and goods receipt), working with supply chain management (SCM) and support groups
  • Provide technical engineering support for intended changes and integration into existing facilities
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with internal groups including operations, marketing, network maintenance, and SCM; coordinate project execution with general contractors and cross-functional teams
  • Perform field reviews and site meetings during construction, including one-year warranty walks and complete on-site safety observations

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in a commercial construction project management role
  • Experienced in commercial green site development
  • Bachelor degree in  civil, mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer, or with an equivalent provincial body
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • Project engineering competency, leadership and strong technical capability
  • You have a deep understanding of commercial construction (structural) and dealing with municipalities
  • Proven project management (on construction projects) skills and a natural problem-solver
  • You have excellent computer skills (MS-Office, including MS-Project)
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter and dynamic with exceptional verbal and written communication skills and strong non-authoritative leadership ability
