Overview

The Project Controls Specialist -Scheduling SME will report to the Project Controls Supervisor and be based out of MPC’s Findlay, Ohio campus. This Specialist role is charged with leading and advancing the Refining Division’s Project Controls scheduling knowledge base.  Expectations in this area include: delivering subject matter training, mentoring junior staff, and providing expertise in the evaluation and rollout of scheduling tools and software applications. This position will also support large capital projects through periodic reviews, assessments and interaction with the Project Controls teams.    

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the Project Controls Scheduling Subject Matter Expert for Marathon Petroleum’s Refining division.
  2. Continuously inventory and assess the collection of Project Controls scheduling knowledge area’s procedures, guidelines, templates, forms and tools. Periodically improve the collection through elimination, enhancement and creation of components.
  3. Oversee efficient management of  Primavera Database for administrative management, and data structure efficiency
  4. Gather, analyze, and communicate internal and industry lessons learned to the Project Management community.
  5. Lead a Scheduling Community of Practice group that includes specialists from all Marathon Petroleum refineries.
  6. Develop and deliver training to project professionals throughout the company.
  7. Mentor and coach co-ops, interns as well as up and coming project staff.
  8. Provide direction, insight and support on accompanying Information Technology software, systems and applications.
  9. Monitor, review, assess, and occasionally audit large projects for compliance with prescribed standards, conformance with industry norms and alignment with local refinery particulars.
  10. Directly support projects being managed and controlled out of the corporate office.
  11. Deliver meaningful and timely status updates for key large projects to management.
  12. Develop and retain a company Subject Matter Expert level  through training, attending conferences, and interaction with other company Subject matter Experts
  13. Develop methods to capture and use Marathon Schedule data in a database to allow for future schedule validations and tracking improvements.

 

Minimum requirements

  • Degree: Bachelors or Technical with substantial experience
  • Years of Experience: 10+ in Project Controls related fields
  • Major Discipline: Construction Management, Engineering, Accounting, Business or related discipline
  • Computer Proficiencies: Advanced skills and knowledge with the following: 1) Oracle Primavera Enterprise and 2) a commercially available application for assessing risk (Monte Carlo simulation) on Primavera based schedules.
  • Travel Required (%):   20%- 30%
  • License: Valid driver's license
  • Relocation considered: Yes
