There is an opportunity for an experienced Process Control Engineer (PCE) to join a global energy company at Shell’s Puget Sound Refinery in Anacortes, WA on beautiful Fidalgo Island.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the control system performance and technical assurance in assigned areas as a member of the area production team.

As a production area process control engineer, accountabilities include:  ensure control applications deliver target utilization and profitability; thoroughly understand process technologies in areas of support; identify bad actor base layer, advanced control and optimization applications through proactive monitoring and drive corrective action plans; drive alarm rate reductions through production team alarm management meetings; provide controls focused coaching and technical support to the production team; perform Management of Change reviews to ensure safe operation, design, and proper documentation of control application changes; and participate and/or lead incident investigations as required.
As a senior member of the control systems group, accountabilities include:  thorough knowledge of control systems hardware and software, including their capabilities and limitations; knowledge of current corporate and industry standards and practices; identify and lead implementation of information and control applications that push units to maximum profitable operation (capacity, yields, energy, etc.); provide process control technical assurance support to projects and other technical groups; mentors and develop less experienced engineers; develop training documentation and organizes technical training on information/control systems applications.

 The Puget Sound Refinery distributed control system is Honeywell with a mix of TDC2000, TDC3000 and Experion hardware. Advanced multivariable controllers are deployed on most production units using Shell’s Multivariable Optimizing Control software, SMOC/PACE.  Real time optimizers are deployed on some production units using SimSci’s ROMeo software.
