  • To provide mechanical engineering technical support to progress capital projects through the project funnel from design to execute phases by providing mechanical engineering technical review and advice to the projects undertaken by Shell Jurong Island (SJI). Projects may include but not be limited to brownfield, rejuvenation and new assets addition development.
  •  He/ She is responsible for the successful execution of Front End Engineering Design (FEED) & subsequently detailed engineering design of static equipment and piping systems for all capital projects, and participation in technical and compliance verification exercises e.g. HAZOP, HAZID, Scope Challenge etc.
  • For selected projects, the mechanical engineer will be required to work closely with engineering contractors (EPC/EPCM contractors) as the project team’s discipline focal point to oversee mechanical engineering works being carried out by the engineering contractors and ensure on-time delivery of a fit-for-purpose and cost effective technical solutions for the mechanical static and piping systems in the respective project scopes. To provide expertise in the areas of mechanical static equipment design, plot plan layout and piping designs, and to ensure that all relevant project specifications based on Shell DEP’s and/or relevant industry technical standards, are incorporated into the design accordingly.
  • He/she is responsible to provide support project execution during construction and performance testing of all mechanical/static equipment within the project scopes.
  • Accountable for leading/developing the assign projects in accordance with Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) control framework and actively promote this culture within the project team.
  •  Accountable to assure technical integrity of SJI capital projects throughout their life-cycle. This is done through technical due-diligence and assurance during design, construction and commissioning of projects
  • Assure all changes are designed and implemented according to the required technical standards.
  • Ensures delivery of high quality critical as-built documents and drawings related to the respective assets.
  • Support resolution of interfaces with the engineering contractors and MTAC (Maintenance, Turnaround and Construction Team) as necessary. Ensure all relevant processes, procedures and tools are used, and ensure their proper implementation by the Engineering Contractor.
  • Monitors and reports compliance to DEM2 gap assessments and closure plans.
  • Provides assurance of integrity in the design of the facilities e.g. re-use or replacement of static equipment or piping.
  • Promote standardization & smart replication in engineering approaches. Support the implementation of fit for purpose designs for both brownfield and greenfield site projects.
  • Establish and maintain a structured mentoring approach to share knowledge with other team members

Challenges:

1. Ability to co-operate and coordinate with other teams and stakeholders (other discipline engineering teams, project services, operations, inspection, plant engineers, HSSE).

2. Projects can fall under an array of different scopes: replacements, re-rate and re-use, repair, rehabilitation, rejuvenation etc. Such work will require a good understanding of plant integrity risks as well as a pragmatic approach and mind-set with regards to repair and replacement decisions etc.

3. The position requires good general knowledge of Shell’s work processes in downstream and a sound knowledge in the design of mechanical static equipment and piping systems.
