Reporting to the lead, planning and scheduling, the maintenance planner/scheduler is accountable for identifying and managing all factors relevant to achieving safe, environmentally responsible and cost effective maintenance execution and to maximize system availability by applying planning and scheduling techniques and best practices to effectively control maintenance activities. This role will work closely with Operations, Reliability and Maintenance Execution to plan and schedule all maintenance activities within Fort Hills.

Specifically the planner/scheduler part of this role is responsible for planning and scheduling for all maintenance activities for one or multiple areas (Mobile Equipment Maintenance, Primary and Secondary Extraction, Tailings and/ or Utilities), and for ensuring work is complete in manner in which safety and work performance standards are maintained, proper control exists, resources are managed cost effectively and Suncor’s business objectives are met.

This role is responsible for supporting Suncor’s Journey to Zero, championing Suncor’s values and the behaviors of operational discipline, driving continuous improvement and efforts to achieve world-class equipment performance, and ensuring that Suncor’s business objectives are met.

  • Steward the sustainment and improvement of maintenance business processes and related procedures to support a culture of accountability and does not sacrifice the long for the short term
  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally to build an environment that fosters high performance, innovation, learning and initiative
  • Develop an effective maintenance plan, modify the plan for variations due to availability of resources due to operations, actual work completed or additional work requirements
  • Work with program planners, planners and schedulers to align programs with the major events calendar to ensure a solid long range plan
  • Manage an effective long range maintenance plan, modify the plan for variations due to availability of resources due to operations, actual work completed or additional work requirements
  • Understand job plans and work requirements, if breakdowns of work and sequence associated tasks are logical, multi-craft alignment within plans
  • Monitor and maintain work requirements and requests with planner, paying special attention to contracts/projects/maintenance and operations being run simultaneously or in conjunction with the current outage
  • Review work scope change requests prior to their introduction into the proposed schedule
  • Involvement to maintain and continuously improve job plans and associated SAP data (Strategies, BOM’s, Work Centers, Plans etc.)
  • Maximize resource productivity by identifying and coordinating the supply of parts, materials, special tools, external services and rental equipment and prepare relevant documentation
  • Assist in the development and provide input and suggestions to improve effectiveness of maintenance programs, processes and procedures
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Suncor policies and standards - including the Management of Change (MoC) process and maintenance business processes – input into the development of area-specific procedures and standards
  • Adherence to all health, safety and environment standards, and ensure effective actions and programs are in place to sustain safety and reliability performance goals (Field Level Risk Assessments, Focused Observations, Incident Learning Program, all external regulatory requirements)
