Do you have a passion for high voltage engineering? Do you enjoy taking initiative and using your analytical skills to drive improvements and assess new technology within your field? Reporting to the manager, reliability transmission and distribution (T&D), you will support the reliability engineering team on the initiatives related to asset management for high voltage electrical equipment in the T&D jurisdiction at our base plant and in-situ Firebag sites.

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Suncor policies and standards including the management of change process and maintenance business processes
  • Develop new or optimize existing asset strategies for high voltage electrical equipment and systems to ensure long term reliability
  • Implement, follow up and support techniques for repetitive failures elimination such as bad actors, equipment history, life cycle assessment, and perform equipment and system reliability assessment
  • Assist with technical issues of improvements, design reviews and specifications, troubleshooting or failure analysis, and development of work scopes for maintenance and repair purposes
  • Assess the equipment reliability condition through the use of predictive tools such as transformers oil analysis, partial discharge, IR/Corona scanning and online monitoring
  • Evaluate and propose new technology tools to perform predictive maintenance on high voltage equipment and/or systems to assess equipment health condition
  • Support our reliability improvement plan and processes and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration
  • Execute equipment criticality review process and support risk assessments related to maintenance, project work execution and system operational configurations   
  • Analyze, recommend and report on equipment performance and key performance indicators
  • Drive a structured approach to uphold all health, safety and environment standards, and ensure effective actions and programs are in place to sustain safety and reliability performance goals

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of related experience working in reliability and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment (preferably in the oil and gas industry or utilities environment)
  • Experience with development of predictive and preventative maintenance strategies
  • A multidisciplinary background in engineering, maintenance and operations is an asset
  • Bachelor degree in a related engineering discipline
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Preference for certification in plant maintenance and reliability such as PEMAC, SMRP, CRE
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
