Senior Analyst, Crude Accounting

Reporting to the manager, refinery supply and by-products accounting, you will be responsible for the accounting related to activities impacting the Suncor refineries. This includes the supply and marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the supply of crude oil and the marketing of certain refined products related to the refineries.


  • Work closely with the supply, trading and optimization front office group in the accounting of refined product sales and refinery production as well as refinery consumption of LPG’s and crude oil
  • Build the monthly net-forward invoices for both crude oil and LPG’s for the refineries
  • Contribute in the reconciliation of crude oil and LPG’s through the book-to-physical process to ensure inventory is recorded and valued appropriately
  • Address supplier, purchaser or internal credit queries and liaise with the LPG front office group to resolve issues
  • Manage the upload of system transactions into the SAP general ledger
  • Craft various reports including ad hoc analysis and regulatory reporting to support the business
  • Perform Ad hoc projects including improved transparency into logistics costs and treatment of these costs across the refineries, improved interface processes between the system and the SAP general ledger, reduction of manual processes, accuracy of calculating first-in-first-out (FIFO) lag impacts, implementing a more rigorous book-to-physical reconciliation for the delivery of trucked volumes

Required Qualifications

 
  • Three or more years of experience with crude oil or liquefied petroleum gas accounting
  • Undergraduate degree in business /commerce/finance or equivalent education
  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (legacy CA, CMA, or CGA)

  • Computer literacy (advanced Microsoft Excel and Visio)
  • Proficiency in SAP, particularly experienced in the following modules: FI/CO, BW, BCS, and MM, PAR
  • Deep understanding of accounting transactions within an inter-company environment and understanding of commodity trading and risk management (CTRM) system, an asset
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship building skills, with the ability to facilitate cross-functional working meetings
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
