Senior Advisor, Operational Reporting

Job Overview

If you have a passion for building and supporting comprehensive, easy to use business models that drive significant business decisions and enjoy training and coaching others in their use, we have a great opportunity for you. Reporting to the senior coordinator, operational reporting, you will lead developments in new business models and reports that allow our field selling force to confidently and reliably make critical business decisions concerning factors of profitability and expense reduction. As context expert of our in-house operational and financial data, along with your ability to use application software like MS Excel and Visual Basic, you will craft and support these new tools that enable people to quickly evaluate revenue or expense challenges within our networks. You will continually use your adaptability to manage the challenges of new business requirements and new software and database systems as part of the evolution of the role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with business partners at all levels to understand the need for new models or reports versus the improvement of existing tools
  • Champion the development of new models, at times leading a small team of business experts who will advise and articulate expected outcomes
  • Identify and lead changes in data from source systems to accommodate new model and report development
  • Adapt continually to changes in retail and wholesale business (rackforward) priorities to provide information availability and systems to the field and other service groups
  • Understand principles and practices of information flow, capture and storage to provide critical insights to trouble shoot conflicts in data, identify reporting opportunities and investigate potential problems
  • Provide backup support to other advisors and analysts for specific tasks with the broader team and supports key activities or projects as required

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of five years of analytical and database related experience, with demonstrated experience in application to business solutions
  • University or college degree with a focus in either business or computer science

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge (or can quickly acclimatize through professional experience) of wholesale or retail (rackforward) operations and operating models, including operational organizations, service and support groups and profit and loss accounting, especially with respect to various operational measures (commissions, royalties, license fee, etc.)
  • Highly capable in working with a wide scope of computer applications with advanced Excel skills and exposure to database applications (SAS and MS Access) and Microsoft Suite of products, and can quickly learn other applications (IBM Cognos Powerplay, SAP BW)
  • Advanced skills in using Visual Basic for Applications, especially for use with Excel and MS Access, is preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated non-authoritative leadership skills and ability to work well within a team environment
  • Ability to train and coach others in aspects of reporting, including use of regular reports, target setting or third party benchmarks (“train the trainers”)
  • Strong planning, prioritization, self-management, multitasking and project management skills
  • Intermediate to advanced accounting fundamentals (profit and loss and balance sheet) is preferred
  • Continuous improvement mindset with strong analytical and decision-making capacity

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required for training sessions
