Are you a well-rounded communications professional who can develop effective communication and engagement strategies that are tailored to specific audiences in order to build awareness and understanding? Reporting to the manager, communications, operations services, you will provide essential communication expertise and services, primarily to the Digital and Enterprise Technical (D&ET) team, as we work to further integrate Suncor’s information and operations technology function and accelerate the pace of our digital transformation.   

  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy to support D&ET to advance priority business initiatives and projects
  • Partner on a number of communication efforts for many key projects and programs and help engage and empower employees
  • Provide communications support for senior leaders as well as for change and organizational effectiveness
  • Enable employee communications
  • Manage and support an effective communication system and channels to ensure alignment with the corporate strategy and the Suncor story
  • Be an ambassador for the our services model, our brand, and communications processes
  • Build a deep understanding of our technology ecosystem and related governance model to provide business leaders and communication partners with critical communication advice on key issues and risks and help navigate reputational challenges
  • Be ready to provide timely support to the business during emergencies or critical events, as a member of the on-call rotation

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in communications, preferably in a corporate environment
  • Experience as a trusted and essential communication consultant to internal or external client groups
  • Experience developing and executing digital workplace, technology implementation and change management strategies to support significant cultural and work process changes is preferred
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry is an asset
  • Experience working within a gated process for large, complex projects and programs is an asset
  • University degree or related post-secondary diploma/certificate in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or an associated field

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite with strong working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong consultation, integration skills, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strategic communicator and creative thinker who can identify and connect themes
  • Deep understanding of various audiences within an organization and their diverse needs
  • Skilled writer and storyteller who can create engaging content for various media that brings together strategy, program and project work in an integrated manner, making it easier for the organization to understand and engage in the progression of digitization/transformation
  • Demonstrable project management experience and strong change management skills
  • Ability to increase skills and learn new techniques/tools (be digital in approach)
  • Proven ability to act as a project leader and to coach and engage other communication team members and strategic partners where no formal reporting relationship exists
  • Ability to manage client expectations and develop great partnerships, while managing tight deadlines and multiple priorities

Working Conditions

  • Irregular hours may be required to accommodate emergency on-call rotation
  • Some overtime is required to support program / project milestones and deliverables
  • Some travel may be expected to our operating areas
