Quality Assurance Inspector, Electrical and Instrumentation

Reporting to the business unit projects quality assurance (BUP QA) lead, you will provide inspection services within an operating and expanding plant environment. In support of BUP teams, you will represent the asset owner as an electrical and instrumentation (E&I) subject matter expert in the development and execution of BUP activities.


  • Assure regulatory compliance and electrical safety 
  • Verify documentation and progressive turnover items such as punch lists, request for information (RFI), technical deviation notice (TDN), field change notice (FCN) and, non-conformance report (NCR) closeout
  • Perform field inspections and surveillance, sign off on witness and hold points, and attend walk downs as required
  • Review and provide mentorship to inspection and test plans (ITP) for project execution, testing, and commissioning
  • Sign off E&I discipline documentation and mechanical completions
  • Guide and mentor contractors with respect to Suncor QA expectations, interpretations, and issue resolution
  • Review standards, procedures and exhibits to identify quality improvements and efficiencies
  • Provide schedule input and progress updates
  • Review and provide recommendations for engineering work packages (EWP) and construction work packages (CWP)

Required Qualifications

 
  • 10 years of experience conducting inspections, non-destructive examinations (NDE), monitoring fabrication, repairs, alterations, and new construction of electrical and instrumentation equipment
  • Experience working within a project environment
  • Diploma in electrical engineering technology, and/or a degree in electrical engineering
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Advanced knowledge of the Canadian electrical code – Canadian standards association (CSA) C22.1 and related industry standards 
  • Strong proven trouble-shooting and analytical skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Exceptional ability to work in a multidisciplinary, integrated team environment and build positive relationships
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter who possesses strong communication skills, and you are able to work well in a team environment
  • You collaborate with diverse groups to determine the best results and deliver the most value

Working Conditions

  • You are comfortable with physical work, assessing equipment within confined spaces, working in the outdoors and at safe working heights with the appropriate personal protective equipment
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
