The Capital Project Scheduler is part of a team of schedulers in the Project Controls organization. 
The Convent Refinery Project Controls Organization is comprised of a mix of company direct and contract staff and supports the planning, scheduling, cost control, and cost estimating for all Capital and related expense associated with delivery of 250+ projects.

The Scheduling team has the primary responsibility of providing engineering, procurement, construction planning and scheduling expertise for the capital projects portfolio from project initiation through project closeout.  Our goal is to provide planning and scheduling solutions that are driven by safety and support the fundamental objectives of the business. 

The Capital Project Scheduler is the only Shell staff Scheduler on the team.  This role will be responsible for onboarding of contract team members, the development of training materials and desk guides, and working with the Scheduling/Estimating Lead on any needed work process changes.  In addition, this role include the job duties of a  Capital Project Scheduler, using inputs from the project team to develop, optimize, measure and report a dynamic and robust portfolio of project schedules.

Responsibilities Include:
 
  • Onboard contract employees new to the site.
  • Develop training materials and desk guides to facilitate new contractor onboarding.
  • Support development of the Scheduling Team KPIs.
  • Coordinate day-to day activities with the Project Engineering and Construction Teams.
  • Responsible for initial development of pre-FID engineering, procurement and construction schedules through full integration of engineering, procurement and field executable construction schedules.
  • Provide assurance on schedules submitted by contractors according to the Shell project guidelines.
  • Analyze schedule logic, activity durations, constraints, float, resource loading, critical path(s) and leveling resources as needed to support project constraints.
  • Produce schedule deliverables package appropriate for the project stage gate.
  • Ensure engineering contractors meet deadlines in accordance to the Shell project guidelines.
  • Produce Project Management reports that effectively communicate project performance, concerns, and other indicators of schedule performance.
  • Participate in schedule risk workshops to establish schedule contingency.
  • Apply, monitor, and report schedule contingency.
  • Update and align project codes, activity codes, and WBS.
  • Monitor and record approved schedule changes.
  • Participate in IPA benchmarking and other site audits as needed.
  • Manage stage gate baselines.
  • Align all stakeholders during development of engineering, procurement and construction schedules; including integration with construction management and TAR representatives.  This includes leading Schedule/Planning sessions for projects.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a historical database of scheduling activities, durations and overall cycle times.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Calculate standard labor hours necessary to produce objective or to complete project
  • Support efforts on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work directly with Project Management Team to:
    • Develop work lists
    • Gain understanding of target project schedule duration
    • Review jobs on worklist and develop a tentative schedule
    • Identify key milestones and critical path activities
    • Adjust schedule based on approved changes
    • Obtain approval of final schedule from Project Management Tea
       
  • Manage the development of pre-construction schedules including:
    • Bid award for contracts
    • Contractor selection and evaluation
    • Long lead and short term materials delivery
    • Site mobilization/preparation plan and demobilization plan including remove surplus materials and temporary trailers
    • Operations equipment shutdown/clearing
    • Operations equipment start-up
    • All necessary data at the current time and place 
       
  • Execute monthly scheduler deliverables including the following:
    • Meet daily with execution resources to update overall schedule
    • Generate new daily/weekly schedule and 3 day look-ahead schedules
    • Analyze overall work progress impact on schedule
    • Analyze any approved added work/scope on overall schedule
    • Monitor progress on milestones and critical path compliance
    • Report schedule progress and impacts to Project Management Team
    • Track resource compliance with plans and budgets
    • Verify that no additional work is added to schedule unless approved by Project Management Tea
       
  • Complete post-project work including the following:
    • Update schedule with final changes
    • Archive per Shell’s project procedures
    • Document “lessons learned”
