Are you looking for an exciting new career opportunity to join a dynamic team? Reporting to the manager, development and engineering, you will be managing a portfolio of renewable development sites across Canada.  You will lead permitting for development sites as well as   renewable electricity procurements.  You will work with an integrated team to advance project design and development activities through a gated process.

  • Representative to regulatory authorities in relation to project development
  • Represent Suncor to general public and government officials (municipal and provincial) through project development activities
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including major projects, operations and business development teams as required
  • Act as the in-house expert on regulatory permitting processes, policies and procedures relating to renewable energy generation and transmission interconnections
  • Provide environmental technical support for the operation of renewable energy generation assets, with a focus on impact on regulated limits (ambient noise and wildlife)
  • Review design of facilities and assist with commissioning strategy and milestones
  • Manage the development of project quotes, execution plans, schedules and budgets for potential projects in planning stage of project (Gates 1/2)
  • Work closely with our senior electrical engineer on transmission interconnections

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience
  • Engineering degree from a recognized University; registered in or be eligible for registration as a professional Engineer in APEGA
  • May consider equivalent level education and project management/ development background and experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • In-depth understanding of the project development process including experience with gated project management programs
  • Working knowledge of operating electrical generation assets and electrical transmission infrastructure in the power generation industry
  • Knowledge of the operation of electricity pricing and regulated/deregulated markets in multiple provincial jurisdictions
  • Deep understanding of the environmental impacts of renewable energy power project development to guide project design, oversee environmental impact study work, and complete regulatory permit filing
  • Proven project management skills and leadership abilities
  • Possess strong communication, facilitation and writing skills

 Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel across Canada may be required
