Are you passionate about joining a dynamic team in Calgary to support a groundbreaking project across the entire Human Resources (HR) business unit? Reporting to the HR Director, Services Development and Systems & Integration, you will be accountable to project-manage a series of interdependent tracks of work to support our ‘HR Next’ transformation program. HR Next is a multi-year program to transform all aspects of the HR function, inclusive of policy, program design, organization, technology, process, people and data, in support of a redefined enterprise talent proposition.

  • Project-manage a cross-functional team, which may include process specialists, subject matter experts, local implementation leads, other stakeholders and work with all areas of HR and with our Digital and Enterprise Technical (D&ET) team
  • Perform end-to-end project planning, execution, change management and closing adhering to enterprise project and change management frameworks
  • Collaborate with other project managers, work stream leads, HR directors and vice-presidents, and non-HR stakeholders including the D&ET project managers
  • Provide leadership to HR technology project managers, ensuring they are held accountable to the project milestones, quality and cost
  • Maintain compliance to the project execution strategies, project execution plan, procedures and governance structure for the assigned projects and identify and actively handle risks and issues and manage escalations across the project portfolio
  • Develop a sustainment plan for all future business processes to ensure their repeatability and reliability
  • Lead regular meetings with the project team to ensure the project is meeting its intended deliverables evaluate business unit requirements, communicate expectations and evaluate process optimization opportunities
  • Prepare stewardship reports by project and by program and provide succinct, accurate, comprehensive, understandable and timely information to leadership
  • Assist the HR Director in the development of long term strategies
  • Assess organizational needs, identify continuous improvement opportunities, construct or align transition and change management plans and develop performance measures
  • Identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate improvements with project/process owners to accomplish project goals
  • Liaise and translate business requirements to the technical team and facilitate IT project integration points

Required Qualifications

  • At least seven years of combined HR domain and project management (HR application design and implementation) experience
  • Previous HR transformation experience
  • Professional project management designation is preferred
  • Post-secondary education (preferably in business)

  • Strong non-authoritative and influential leadership skills and management of high-performance teams
  • Demonstrated effective project management capabilities
  • Outstanding analytical decision-making and problem solving skills with the ability to think critically
  • Ability to evaluate risks, balance risks with strategic objectives and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate and supportive
  • Effective collaboration skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong, positive relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a demanding and complex environment with the confidence and experience to make decisions within very short timeframes

Working Conditions

  • This position is located at our downtown Calgary office in the Suncor Energy Centre
  • May be required to travel to various Suncor sites, depending on the business need
  • Multiple competing deadlines under pressure
  • Work will at times be highly independent and involves a high degree of self-management
