Program Manager, Technology Development

Reporting to the manager within the greenhouse gas (GHG) and water technical team, you will be responsible for the development of new and disruptive technologies for low-GHG emitting electricity, heat, and hydrogen as aligned with our corporate technology development strategy.


  • Assist in the development and preparation of business cases for technology development activities in the areas of low-GHG intensity heat, power, and hydrogen
  • Support the advancement of technologies as per Suncor’s Technology Development Standard
  • Synthesize technical reports documenting the identification, screening, and evaluation of technologies
  • Influence external innovation and research community to surface opportunities
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior staff
  • Communicate with senior management and external partners, throughout the execution of technology development activities
  • Focus on technologies (with an enterprise-wide scope) with deployment opportunities in existing and future assets outside of oil sands
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners in the development of technology
  • Manage activities with collective budget of up to $5 million annually

Required Qualifications

 
  • 10 years of experience in research and/or development of technology, especially as related to low-GHG intensity heat, power, and hydrogen
  • Technical experience in low-GHG intensity technology
  • PhD or graduate degree in chemical/process engineering, environmental (chemical) engineering, or related discipline from a recognized university; PhD is preferred

  • Knowledge in one or more areas of process systems engineering (e.g., process design, integration, optimization)
  • Deep understanding of one or more process modelling software tools/environments (e.g., Aspen Plus, Hysys, Matlab, gPROMS)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, such as experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research findings at conferences
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and deal successfully with ambiguity
  • Proficient collaborator, tactful, and with a strong ability to influence without authority
