Job Overview

Do you have a passion for plant operations? Reporting to the shift supervisor, you are responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of process equipment in the assigned processing unit to optimize production in an environmentally responsible manner.

Key Accountabilities

  • Follow our operating policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our people, equipment, and the environment
  • Learn all operating units at the facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility at the site
  • Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure shift changes are well communicated
  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
  • Perform routine operating tasks such as monitoring levels, pressures and temperatures
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and initiates repairs or requests for repairs when required
  • Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance
  • Maintain housekeeping in your assigned area at a high level
  • Review and update operating  procedures
  • Complete walk downs and red lining

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Three or more years of experience in plant operations; experience in in a steam assisted gravitational drainage (SAGD) facility or heavy oil processing operations is preferred
  • Experience with distributed control systems in a control room and permit writing is an assets
  • 4th Class Power Engineering certification (or higher); ABSA certified
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Mechanical aptitude to allow the hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function in a positive but dynamic work environment
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to make decisions with integrity and support company objectives and policies
  • You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position located at our Firebag In-situ operation
  • The shift schedule is an eight days on/ six days off rotation
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
