Reporting to the distributed control system (DCS) lead, you will be responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of processes to optimize production in an environmentally responsible manner.

  • Active participant in Suncor’s journey to zero safety initiative, ensuring the safety of people, equipment, and the environment and that plant policies are followed
  • Learn all operating units within the assigned progression at the facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility at the site
  • Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure strong communication during shift changes
  • Report and appropriately flag all plant-related issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Work collaboratively within diverse groups in a demonstrably efficient and flexible manner, while communicating effectively with others
  • Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings in a timely manner
  • Provide direction and supervision to the maintenance and contract personnel as required
  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
  • Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance and commissioning
  • Maintain housekeeping at a high level to ensure a safe work environment

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of experience in plant operations; experience in heavy oil processing, sour gas processing, water treatment, power plants or refinery operations preferred
  • Third class power engineering certification (or higher) and Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) certification preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

  • Self-starter with strong communication skills, who is a great teammate and possesses a strong mechanical aptitude for hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • Proven troubleshooting skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
  • You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you're committed to fixing it
  • You are a problem solver who constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
