The Mechanical Integrity Inspector – Sweeny Refinery will conduct fixed equipment inspections to maintain a high level of safety and reliability while maintaining compliance with Industry Codes and Standards. Conduct inspection activities consistent with Phillips 66 Mechanical Integrity Standards, Phillips 66 Core Values, and Sweeny Refinery Goals. Performing all required inspections of piping and equipment.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Developing cross-plant Mechanical Integrity Strategies through networking with other Refinery Inspectors, Maintenance Supervisors, Engineers, and Operations personnel

  • Conducting proactive and timely inspections to maintain the safe operating condition of fixed equipment

  • Providing accurate and timely recommendations

  • Maintaining an accurate data base and inspection records for fixed equipment

  • Investigating and reporting on the cause of failures indicating the nature of the problem and methods to reduce or eliminate the probability of recurrence

  • Maintaining a high level of safety awareness and work with Contract Inspectors so that they will perform their duties without injury and without a negative impact to the environment

  • Working to resolve reliability problems and improve fixed equipment reliability within the Business Team

  • Supporting all activities of the Business Team with inspection expertise

  • Documenting and reporting on MI Inspections, Overdue Inspections, and MI Deficiencies

  • Ensuring compliance with Industry Standards, Phillips 66 Mechanical Integrity Standards, and Inspection Procedure

  • Developing and maintaining a high level of technical expertise pertinent to the Inspection Function

  • Participating in Core Value initiatives including safety teams, incident investigations, environmental processes, and Valuing All People

Required Qualifications

 
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • 7 or more years of refinery experience

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license

  • Must be willing and able to perform/comply, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to climb a maximum of 200 feet

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

Preferred:

  • 5 or more years of experience in the inspection field

  • Associates degree or Trade Certification

  • API certified 510 or API certified 570

  • API certified 653

  • API certified 571

  • AWS-CWI

  • Computer proficient with applications such as SAP, API, RBI and PCMS

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
