The Maritime Technical Advisor (MTA) is providing maritime expertise in respect of technical, operational and commercial performance whilst protecting the Shell Group’s reputation by ensuring that all maritime operations are conducted in accordance with the Group requirements for Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Social Performance Control Framework.
What’s the role?
The Marine Technical Advisor will monitor and assess the effectiveness of maritime and waterfront operations, advise on new maritime regulated regulations, projects and procedures, including handling for specialist cargoes. You will act as a business partner to the internal customers we serve and will protect the business from Maritime Risks and ensuring the Shell Standards are kept.
As a Marine Technical Advisor, you will primarily provide specialist maritime support to the Pernis Refinery HSSE Assurance Framework and will add value to maritime logistic activities of Shell Netherlands Refinery (SNR). You’ll represent Pernis Refinery maritime interests at regulatory authorities, law enforces, external bodies and within relevant industry committees/working groups.

More specific responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate with internal teams in relation to marine related issues (HSSE, Audit, Learning and Development, Site Marine Projects, Civil Department, Transport Legislations, etc.)
  • Promote positive relationship with relevant Dutch Authorities such as IL&T, Port of Rotterdam etc.
  • Provide leadership on crisis and marine emergency response including organizing and implementing training and exercises to test the effectiveness of Shell Pernis marine emergencies.
  • Provide professional marine support and advice to Manufacturing business on International and EU maritime legislation with regard to Oil & Chemicals requirements, providing input to Dutch Maritime Industry bodies

Required Qualifications

 
What we need from you

We’re keen to speak to individuals with sound knowledge of shipping operations, ship/shore interface management and maritime transportation of hydrocarbons in bulk in seagoing vessels and European inland barges. A previous experience ashore in an operational or commercial role and exposure to a marine regulatory environment is strongly preferred. You need to be fluent in Dutch and English to be qualified for the role, German language is beneficial.

We’d also hope to see as much of the following on your CV:
  • Class I Certificate of Competency deck or Engineer Officer with Dangerous Cargo Endorsement Petroleum, Chemicals and Gas
  • Knowledge of HSSE processes and management systems managing risk regarding shipping operations
  • Knowledge and ability to apply International Legislation and Industry Standards, Codes and Guidelines
A self-motivated, mature marine professional with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Someone who can take decisions which require judgment, having a balance of risk, safety and environment against commercial considerations.
