Do you have a deep understanding of environmental legislation, regulations, codes and practices related to the oil and gas industry? Do you take pride in building strong relationships? Reporting to the director, oil sands environmental and regulatory affairs, you will be responsible for providing environmental leadership, regulatory compliance and support to the oil sands business.

  • Provide due diligence services including: legislative tracking, obtaining and maintaining permits and approvals, on-call reporting, regulatory and internal reporting, deal with regulatory inspections, investigations and enforcement actions, assess environmental risks
  • Provide practical advice on regulatory and environmental matters
  • Facilitate environmental due diligence training
  • Attend internal and external regional environmental committees
  • Inspect and audit onsite facilities and offsite waste receivers
  • Responsible for environmental sampling and monitoring programs
  • Maintain and improve effective relationships with provincial and federal regulators
  • Responsible for Environmental Issues Management
  • Promote continuous improvement of environmental performance
  • Conduct environmental performance stewardship reporting
  • Provide expertise in the area of environmental impacts and environmental performance
  • Support the implementation of Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS)
  • Offer environment and waste management support during turnarounds
  • Provide expertise and resources to support the implementation of key environmental initiatives, changes and in dealing with critical environmental issues and incidents

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of successful oil sands work experience
  • Environmental and regulatory work experience in the energy or oil and gas industry
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or science

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage people/resources and training necessary to develop others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to form effective relationships
  • Able to plan and execute multiple activities
  • Budgeting and cost management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, strong initiative and project management skills
  • A proven ability to recognize and anticipate regulatory changes and their potential impacts on business

Working Conditions

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
