Maintenance Technician, Millwright

Are you a certified Millwright, passionate about joining our MacKay River maintenance execution team? In this role, you will support the maintenance and operations of our assets by performing predictive and preventative maintenance activities safely and expertly.


  • Conduct inspections, repairs, equipment overhauls, and preventative maintenance in both a workshop and the field environment, supporting all industrial machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Review and apply a continuous improvement mindset to safe work practices, procedures, and standards
  • Perform equipment alignment, troubleshooting and rebuilds on equipment including pumps, turbines, fans, blowers, bearings, seals, and hydraulics
  • Operate rigging and lifting equipment
  • Bolt up and torquing of pumps, piping and equipment
  • Actively participate in post event failure analysis and root cause discussions, and take part in developing solutions
  • Committed to adhere to guidelines and maintain technical and preventative records
  • Read blueprints, diagrams, maintenance manuals and schematic drawings to determine work procedures

Required Qualifications

 
  • Five or more years of experience working as a Millwright in heavy industrial environments
  • Plant maintenance, in-shop rebuild and refurbishment experience is an asset
  • Valid Alberta Journeyman Millwright Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Millwright Certificate; attach your Journeyman / Red Seal ticket with your application in order to be considered
  • Dual tickets in a combination of millwright, machinist or welding is an asset
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

  • In-depth knowledge and application of technical requirements and quality standards and a deep understanding of maintenance and operations
  • Expert ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables, or study sample parts.
  • Familiar with computerized maintenance management systems (SAP)
  • Dedicated to safety and the environment; completed safety training, and have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and environmental standards and guidelines
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work well with others

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a based at our MacKay River site
  • The shift schedule is a Monday to Thursday, 10-hr shift
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
