  • Sustain safe and reliable existing civil infrastructure and provide technical quality assurance and value engineering to new construction.
  • In this position, you will be supporting the Shell Deer Park Refinery and Chemical Plant Routine Maintenance (RM) and Non-routine Maintenance (NRM) teams.  Your work will consist of reactive engineering solution development, proactive identification and mitigation of civil/structural threats, technical assurance and value engineering application of engineering contractor’s design.
  • You will be accountable for identifying, mitigating, and progressing civil/structural threats in your assigned units.
  • Work with in-house engineers and inspectors to develop designs and drawings for construction.  Also, review in-house drafting departments ancillary steel drawings and issue for construction.
  • You will be accountable for managing prioritization, scope development, and funding justification for specific infrastructure programs (ie sewer cleaning, inspection, and repair program and road rejuvenation program).

  • Develop concepts for retrofit and new installation of civil/structural assets.
  • Provide design and drafting services from verbal instructions and engineering sketches.
  • Responsible for development of drawings for preliminary layouts, construction drawings utilizing CAD.
  • Prepare site grading and drainage plans, plans for onsite utilities and roadway improvements.
  • Own relationship and manage civil Mitigate Threats to Availability (MTA) for your assigned units.  Expectation is to develop and progress a realistic MTA portfolio and align stakeholders on prioritization and status.
  • Provide consultations for Management of Change (MOC) and complete pre-safety startup review field verification checklists.
  • Work with unit stakeholders, Production Team Support Engineers (PTSE) and Reliability Engineers (RE) to develop long term civil Capital and Non-Standard Expense (NSE) business plans.
  • Drive the prioritization and execution of assigned infrastructure programs.  Develop and justify funding requests.
  • Serve as civil representative for Abnormal Situation Management as required.  Develop in-house engineered solutions.  Work with in house and external civil engineers as required.
  • Develop and optimize assigned asset care strategies including maintenance plans, life extension, and end of life assessment/planning.
  • Execute goals and track via Civil Team KPIs including threats mitigated and cost savings.
  • Consistently identify, vet, and implement new technology.
  • Execute all standard work activities via Smart M.
  • Responsible for assuring Goal Zero:
    • Demonstrate personal commitment to safety by being present for safety stand downs and engagements.
    • Conduct field safety walks and process safety snapshots.
  • Serve as Contract Holder for assigned civil/structural/geotechnical contractors.

  • Financial Dimensions:  In this role, you will be responsible for managing various infrastructure programs including prioritizing, funding justification, and budgetary responsibility.  Currently, this role is responsible for the storm water and process sewer program and the road rejuvenation program.
  • Stakeholder Management:  In this role, it will be critical to be comfortable building relationships with and challenging senior leaders as you will directly support Production Unit Managers (PUM).
