Description

The Laboratory Technician performs a variety of analysis and tests of refinery products, process streams and environmental samples in a technically complex, highly automated refinery laboratory. Technicians work a rotating day/evening/night schedule including weekends. Technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating the equipment used in testing and analysis.

Responsibilities may include :

  • Performing analytical quality control on all incoming, in-process and final sample of raw materials and finished products to ensure specification guidelines are met. Running product samples and other tasks as assigned.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Perform eye wash and safety shower checks weekly. Stocking lab supplies.
  • Assisting in maintaining a safe working environment which conforms to Phillips 66 and governmental standards. Staying up-to-date on all required CBT and procedural training/reviews.
  • Analyzing refining products, process streams and environmental samples in a technically complex, highly automated refinery laboratory

Qualifications

Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent
  • 2 or more years of Lab experience in a refinery or chemical plant
  • Must be able to be Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) qualified (For more information, you can visit www.tsa.gov/whatwedo/layers/twic/index.shtm )
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
  • Work a rotating day/evening/night work schedule, including weekends

  • Occasionally work outdoors and be exposed to harsh weather conditions

  • Observe safe work practices including wearing personal protective equipment

  • Lift up to 50 lbs

  • Work in an environment with infrequent exposure to high levels of noise and vibration

  • Be exposed to extreme temperatures and hot equipment, hydrocarbon vapors, fumes and the potential for exposure to refinery chemicals including for example: hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, benzene, and HF acid

  • Strictly follow laboratory and plant safety procedures

Preferred :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field
  • Knowledge of applicable ASTM, EPA, Federal, State, County regulatory requirements
  • Ability to learn and perform all procedures used in a Quality Control Lab for product testing
  • Computer proficiency
