Laboratory Analysts perform a variety of analysis and tests of refinery products, process streams and environmental samples in a technically complex, highly automated refinery laboratory. Analysts are responsible for maintaining and operating the equipement used in testing and analysis.

Responsibilities May Include

The Laboratory Analyst may be responsible for:

  • Analyze samples and record data in accordance with accepted methods and standard operating procedures.

  • Report substandard conditions, equipment/instrument malfunctions, calibration failures, or other non conformance to Lab supervision

  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on the laboratory equipment, knock engines and instrumentation

  • Analyze QC samples and report results promptly; take defined corrective action when needed

  • Follow all quality policies and procedures

  • Prepare standards and solutions as needed

  • Evaluate and perform calibrations of laboratory instrumentation as required by procedures

  • Use basic functions of SAP system including entry of work times

  • Help maintain lab supply inventories and order labor supplies as needed

  • Proactively support and serve customers

  • Assist in maintaining a safe work environment which conforms to Phillips 66 and governmental standards

  • Stay up to date on all required computer based training and procedural training/reviews

  • Know and observe safe work practices including weaing personal protective equipment

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED

  • Associates Degree in Chemistry or related field and five lears of lab experience in a refinery or chemical plant; Without a degree, 10 years of lab experience in a refinery or chemical plant is required.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license

  • Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note information reqarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at

  • Eighteen years of age or older

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Industry and corporate standards and best practices as applicable within a plant environment

  • Basic computer skills

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills

  • Strong personal initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Willing and able to perform /comply, with or without reasonable accomodation the following

  • Work overtime, nights, and weekends according to business need

  • Move items weighting up to 50 lbs

  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment, such as steel toed boots, ear and eye protection

  • Maintain face daily so that a respirator /face mask can be properly sealed (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)


  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field

  • Knowledge of applicable ASTM, EPA, Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements

  • Abilityto learn and perfomr all procedures used in a Quality Control Lab for product testing

  • Demonstrates innovative thought process & problem sovling skills

  • Demonstrates interpersonal and teamwork skills to coordinate necessary activities among a diverse group, while breaking down barriers that separate these groups

  • Self motivated, accepts ownership, is accountable and delivers on commitments

  • Personally committed to continuous learning and ongoing self development

  • Ability to manage a very diverse workload

The Alliance Refinery is located on the Mississippi River in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, approximately 25 miles southeast of New Orleans, Louisiana. The singletrain facility includes crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, aromatics and delayed coking units. It processes mainly light and medium, low-sulfur crude oil. The refinery receives domestic crude oil through a combination of pipelines, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, home heating oil and anodegrade petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers in the southeastern and eastern United States through major pipeline systems and by barge. Refined products are exported primarily to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
