Reporting to the manager, health and safety, you will provide generalist support while coaching and mentoring during the construction portion of Suncor’s projects. You will be responsible to act as a subject matter expert and provide support in the interpretation and application of work scope, specific to health and safety (H&S) legal and regulatory requirements, incident investigation, root cause analysis, audits and assessments and interacting with H&S regulators.

  • Assist in implementing the H&S project execution plan
  • Participate in the contractor management process to perform H&S responsibilities
  • Work with site leaders to support the implementation and sustainment of major projects, H&S programs, regional standards, safe work practices, orientations, and campaigns
  • Perform hazard assessments and audit contractor hazard assessments
  • Interpret, apply and monitor compliance of H&S regulations that govern the projects specific work scope to assist leaders in reflecting due diligence in decision-making
  • Conduct incident investigations (as requested) and coach and mentor incident owners and leaders in root cause analysis and assignment of corrective action
  • Perform audits and coach and mentor leaders in processes such as serious injury fatality (SIF) control verifications, field level hazard assessment audits, safety observations, and inspections
  • Interact with regulators at a facility for expected and unexpected visits

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of safety-related and/or Turnaround-related field experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred
  • Relevant education combined with at least one recognized safety designation (NCSO, CRSP, OHS)
  • For Alberta-based projects, you possess a licenced investigator certification or are working towards completion
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
