Health and Safety Advisor

Job ID

  • Build and implement standards and processes that meet regulatory requirements and are aligned to industry standards, to control or eliminate safety risks
  • Act as a point of contact with Ministry of Labour inspectors for occupational injuries or illnesses
  • Provide mentorship to other safety advisors working on site from various contractor organizations
  • Manage monthly safety stewardship reports of leading and lagging indicators, and actions being taken to address issues or trends
  • Review site statistics, trends, and safety performance, with the intent of deriving actionable items
  • Actively participate in the emergency response incident command team and the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Lead injury/incident investigations to find root cause and identify actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Support refinery operations, maintenance, and construction activities, including turnarounds and outages
  • Provide guidance, assistance and coordination in the implementation and maintenance of Toolbox talks and Weekly Safety Meetings

Required Qualifications

 

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of related work experience in safety, preferable in a refinery environment
  • An in-progress, or completed education and/or designation in industrial and construction safety (e.g. CSO, NCSO or OHS Certificate in Advanced Safety Management)
  • An in-progress, or completed Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Training and experience in investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • TapRooT or Kepner-Tregoe experience
  • Extensive professional knowledge of personal safety practices, and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, in both construction and industrial regulations
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
