The Refinery Finance Advisor's objective is to be a key finance business partner, by providing financial insights to key business stakeholders and influence their decision making, by identifying and pursuing opportunities to drive value and by acting as the focal point for financial reporting and business performance reviews. The Finance Advisor supports the Refinery and the wider Shell Group by a continuous drive towards delivering value, business improvements and process standardization via active participation in Finance initiatives and networks, and to identify and embed best practices from other Shell Operating Companies to maximize the benefits of the wider Shell network.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Be Finance Business Partner to key Business Stakeholders (for example Production, Technology and Energy departments) providing them fit for purpose information and influence decision making
  • Drive monthly and quarterly business performance and cost management meetings
  • Provide analysis, interpretation and reporting of financial and operational performance, including accurate cost forecasts and meaningful monthly variance explanations
  • Deliver value by identifying and driving key areas for cost reduction and commercial opportunities
  • Support contract management applicable to area of responsibility to know whether contracts are being fully optimized and to assure that there is no value leakage
  • Coordinate development of annual Business Plan to help deliver on the Refinery‚Äôs total cost commitment
  • Effectively work together on a daily basis with Finance colleagues in different functions and different locations across the globe
  • Interface with colleagues across refineries to share best practices and learn from each other
  • Participate in Finance networks and other initiatives
  • Coordinate the analysis, understanding, and reporting of data in benchmarking exercises (i.e. Solomon.)
  • Prioritize own workload and assist in prioritizing the workload of team members to ensure that key internal site and external requirements are met.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and Shell Downstream accounting policies (i.e. capital vs. expense, catalyst accounting, maintenance work order types, travel policy, One-Card policy)
  • Provide support and analysis on investment decision making
