Are you passionate about ensuring proper ergonomics are applied across the employee population so that equipment is as safe and easy to use as possible? In this role, reporting to the manager, you will provide technical expertise in ergonomics strategies across Suncor.

  • Apply scientific techniques and analytical skills to ensure that the designs of systems, equipment and facilities provide the best levels of efficiency, comfort and safety for all end users
  • Analyze and provide recommendations on interactions that happen between people, machinery/equipment and the environment
  • Perform ergonomic risk assessments within the workplace (office and field) to assess the effect of work environments on personnel; identify possible improvements and design and implement appropriate solutions
  • Participate in working groups to review and make recommendations for ergonomic interventions at the planning, design, construction of work spaces and/or the purchase of new tools or equipment and process flow work design
  • Develop and implement communication, education and training strategies related to ergonomic programs, policies and procedures
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments, job mentoring, suitability assessments, and other strategies to facilitate an employee’s return to pre-disability or alternate work or to assist with the implementation of new/revised procedures, tasks, equipment, etc.
  • Act as Suncor’s liaison for the regulator (OHS, Minister of Labour, etc.), and/or Workplace Compensation representatives regarding ergonomic or return to work issues
  • Collaborate with site services on the job demands analysis (JDA’s) for required positions within Suncor
  • Participate in incident investigations to facilitate with identifying root cause where the interaction between the end user and equipment may be a factor

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of applied ergonomics experience
  • An undergraduate or a masters level degree in health sciences (e.g., kinesiology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, human factors etc.).
  • Professional ergonomics certification or working towards the certification
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health Act and Worker’s Compensation legislation
  • Deep understanding and experience with the principles and practice of ergonomics, human factors, occupational health and safety, and disability management
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to effectively manage your time and use your organizational skills
  • You collaborate with diverse groups in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in downtown Calgary at the Suncor Energy Centre
  • Travel will be required to other Suncor sites
