Engineering Specialist, Mechanical Rotating Equipment

Are you a rotating equipment specialist interested in providing technical advice regarding industrial trends and strategic direction? We’re looking for a highly skilled individual to help improve value from our rotating mechanical assets across Suncor. Reporting to the director, equipment reliability, you will provide technical support and guidance for long-term reliability improvement, and develop specifications and standard methodologies for our rotating machinery across Suncor Energy.


  • Support and lead critical machinery investigations and root cause analysis
  • Ensure cost effective engineering solutions are identified to address reliability issues
  • Develop, revise and interpret corporate specifications and other guidance documents
  • Review and provide technical feedback into engineering scoping for our major and sustainment projects
  • Support vendor qualification and approval through technical audit of the vendor's facility, manufacturing and design procedures
  • Participate in the machinery network goals, work plans and other activities
  • Support the competency development process and mentor rotating machinery engineers
  • Provide technical support for turnarounds and for optimum plant performance
  • Provide support to supply chain management (SCM) on vendor bid evaluation and selection of vendors for standardization

Required Qualifications

 
  • 20 or more years of design, application, maintenance and reliability experience in oil and gas process compressors (centrifugal and reciprocating), steam turbines, process pumps and other rotating equipment and auxiliary systems
  • Experience selecting rotating machinery for new applications using industry codes and standards based on life cycle approach
  • Experience with evaluating performance of all rotating machinery, including troubleshooting and failure analysis of various rotating machinery and supporting systems
  • You have a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering with a professional engineering designation

  • You have deep knowledge in the application of API (610-619 pumps, compressors, turbines), ISO and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) codes
  • You possess knowledge in the application of HI 12.1-12.6 slurry pumps standard and technology
  • You are knowledgeable in equipment installation requirements, including API 686
  • You are able to utilize Microsoft Office; SAP proficiency is preferred
  • You have good written and verbal communication skills
