  • Monitor, predict, plan, and optimize production performance of the SAGD scheme
  • Identify potential bottlenecks or challenges based on production issues such as artificial lift performance, wellbore design and integrity
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers–in-training (EITs) and junior engineers
  • Design wellbore equipment for new pads including tubulars, sand control,  artificial lift, well workovers and stimulations
  • Identify brown field production sustaining opportunities and follow through the implementation of such opportunities
  • Identify production cost savings and optimization options and alternatives
  • Design and size artificial lift methods such as gas lift and electric submersible pumps (ESPs)
  • Maintain wellbore integrity to prevent corrosion, erosion, maintain containment of wellbore fluid
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (well testing, metering, observation wells, surface casing vent flows)
  • Lead risk reviews and manage change
  • Provide on-time and consistent support to field production engineers on optimum production strategy and targets
  • Support the planning and field implementation of new technology projects

Required Qualifications

 
  • Minimum five years of experience in thermal production engineering or equivalent position
  • Strong understanding and experience with thermal/SAGD recovery
  • Experience with thermal wellbore modelling, design, nodal analysis and wellbore/gathering system models such as Pipesim, QFlow, WEM, and TWBS
  • Experience in mitigation of wellbore integrity issues such as corrosion, sand control and surface casing vent flows
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • APEGA membership or eligible for registration

  • Knowledge on performance surveillance, KPIs and production optimization of SAGD well pairs
  • Understand thermal well completion and workover techniques, artificial lift design and optimization
  • Deep understanding of SAGD steam chamber development and surveillance as well as reservoir safety
  • You drive our business preserving people and process safety as top priority
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • This position is located at the Suncor Energy Centre in Calgary, Alberta
  • Occasional travel will be required primarily to Mackay River site
