Reporting to the reliability manager, you will be responsible to provide electrical engineering and equipment reliability support for our upgrading base plant and electrical substations. You will support the site maintenance team to provide detailed technical assistance to day-to-day upgrading operations.


  • Comply with all our environment health and safety policies, standards and procedures
  • Make continuous improvement recommendations to improve asset capability, safety, and operability through elimination of bad actors and/or improved equipment or component selection and innovation
  • Focus on assigned priorities and develop accurate scope of work for turnaround/outages/routine maintenance and making regular improvements
  • Ensure equipment design changes align with the engineering standards and practices and management of change systems and are evaluated for the impact on reliability
  • Work closely with maintenance, planners and operations on equipment reliability issues and failure trends to improve existing asset strategies
  • Assist with solving problems on Motors, EHTs, MCCs, Switchgears, Relays, UPSs and VFDs/480V/4160V and ensure that high quality targeted preventative maintenance (PM) is maintained
  • Identify PM requirements and work with the reliability team to set up required spare parts inventory levels and ensure material masters are up-to-date reflecting installed field equipment
  • Lead technical meetings and small scale projects from conception through to implementation
  • Conduct reliability analysis to predict remaining equipment service life and make recommendations for obsoleted equipment change strategy

Required Qualifications

 
  • Five or more years of experience in electrical engineering, variable frequency drives (VFD) and high voltage applications; experience in process plants or refinery
  • A multidisciplinary background in engineering, maintenance and operations is an asset
  • Bachelor degree in electrical engineering
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and SAP
  • Strong analytical skills including analyzing SAP data, conducting root cause assessment, and drawing and presenting conclusions and recommendations
  • Well-developed critical thinking, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • You are a self-starter who is able to work in a multidisciplinary, integrated team environment
  • Ability to provide personal and technical mentorship to junior staff members
  • You collaborate in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Working Conditions

  • This is an overtime exempt position.
  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • You will perform work on elevated work sites with the ability to perform in different environments substations as well as within confined spaces
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible applicants
