Director, Drilling and Completions Operations

Job Overview

Do you have significant drilling and completions experience, paired with strong leadership abilities? Are you looking for a new opportunity to join our team? Working with the general manager, drilling, completions, logistics and land (DCLL), you will lead a small Calgary-based team focused on large SAGD drilling rigs, winter corehole/delineation drilling rigs, service rigs, coil tubing, logging units and any other miscellaneous drilling and completion operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Own the overall project management and final decisions on all operational aspects of the projects
  • Select drilling supervisors, contractors, rigs, materials and services for projects
  • Ensure that regulatory and corporate compliance is followed
  • Provide daily operational direction to effectively manage safety, quality, cost and schedule of the projects
  • Provide work direction, approvals, mentorship and guidance for the team
  • Ensure that your team is on-call to deal with operational issues 24/7
  • Implement safety initiatives and steward performance
  • Participate actively in the larger DCLL leadership team
  • Collaborate with the drilling and completions engineering teams

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum 15 years of drilling and completions experience with preference for experience in horizontal wells (preferably SAGD)
  • Past supervisory experience to provide strong leadership and influence to your team
  • Direct field experience is an asset
  • Preference for an engineering degree or technology diploma

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of all areas of petroleum operations
  • An exceptionally strong dedication to safety: you communicate safety concerns, and promote a safe work environment based on established safety standards and training
  • Strong continuous improvement and operational excellence mindset
  • Well organized with strong coordination skills and capable to handle a dynamic workload
  • Excellent interpersonal, technical and operational skills
  • Dedicated and results oriented and you challenge and optimize all aspects of the business

  • This position is located in Calgary, Alberta at the Suncor Energy Centre
