Shell Rheinland Refinery is the largest German refinery. It processes more than 15 million tons of crude oil every year. Almost 3,000 employees in the Cologne-Godorf and Wesseling plants produce around ten percent of Germany's total diesel and petrol consumption, around 15 percent of its kerosene consumption and products for the chemical industry.


The purpose of the DCS Technician role is to deliver maintenance support for the production units by managing the engineering and implementation of major repairs and lead for medium projects (Capex/ Opex) based on Shell Standards, Safety & Quality Standards and local guidelines within the Control-System DCS/ PLC Discipline for the whole Rhineland Refinery. The DCS Technician carries single point responsibility for budget, time and agreed scope of medium projects and is responsible for the conceptual design, implementation, realisation and sustainable enhancement of these technologies and the relevant software-applications. The role will also have full responsibility for the availability and reliability of all Siemens Simatic S5 / S7 / PCS7 systems and applications in the Rheinland Refiner

The DCS Technician responsibilities include

 
  • Engineering and implementation of minor repairs and small projects (Capex/ Opex) within time and budget, ensuring that all project specifications are fully in line with German Authority legislations and local guidelines and overall Rheinland Refinery Management systems
     
  • Ensuring system integrity and sustainable system / plant availability within project / maintenance scopes as well as cost optimisation
     
  • Managing, monitoring and co-ordinating detailed design & engineering, procurement activities during the implementation phase
     
  • Managing maintenance and project execution
     
  • Ensuring control processes and as built documentation
     
  • Preparation of close out report and inserting lessons learned in appropriate systems
     
  • Managing  internal project personnel and resources
     
  • Managing, reviewing and approving Engineering Contractors deliverables
     
  • Providing input to Project KPIs
