Coordinator, Montréal Crude Optimization

Reporting to the manager, downstream crude optimization, you will play a key role in supporting our Montréal refinery to optimize feed slate through the integrated planning process, provide economic and marginal value evaluation and respond to all plant operational upsets in a timely and effective manner.


  • Interface with the Montréal refinery, pipeline, marine and third party facilities to optimize short term and long term crude operations and initiate projects for improved crude supply to the refinery
  • Participate in the short term estimate (STE) plans, understand and anticipate impact of all operational changes to refinery crude supply changes, pricing calls and refinery run rates
  • Work with upstream crude optimization, trading, crude scheduling and product supply to optimize all crude dispositions and acquisitions
  • Identify and take advantage of opportunities around crude and, collaborate with the other refineries to leverage synergies
  • Perform economic evaluations for the supply of crude to Montréal by pipeline and cargo
  • Manage and build asset optimization value for Suncor clearly defining alternatives and highlighting values created through the optimal decisions that are made
  • Contribute to supply planning optimization in order to address complex multi locational turnaround outages
  • Provide pricing, availability and compositions to the refinery in unplanned outage situations and also provide to crude optimization an understanding of refinery incidents and impact on crude deliveries
  • Provide an understanding of and recommendations for the Montréal refinery crude logistics to the business development and legal groups
  • Build strong, positive relationships and manage agreements with counterparties as required
  • Participate in several projects and integration work for supply, trading and optimization

Required Qualifications

 
  • Minimum five years of related analysis, scheduling and/or marketing, trading, refinery supply or refinery/oil sands operating experience
  • Commercial or trading experience is an asset
  • Exposure to refinery operations and an associated understanding of Canadian, U.S. and International crude production and markets is an asset
  • Post-secondary education in a related field such as finance, accounting, engineering, or an equivalent education

  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
  • Highly developed analytical skills to assess dynamic operations and choose the optimal outcome
  • A deep understanding of the operations and economic drivers across the oil sands value chain
  • Excellent social, communication and negotiating skills to successfully resolve complex market, counterparty and customer issues
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and translate complex operational choices and deviations to upstream and downstream logistics and market opportunities and constraints
  • Strong writing and presentation skills as well as an ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to effectively influence, collaborate, coach and lead others at many levels of the organization

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Calgary, Alberta at the Suncor Energy Centre
  • You will be working an open concept area
  • 24/7 coverage required on a rotational basis
  • Some travel may be required
