The Shell Martinez Civil Engineer will sustain the reliability of existing civil infrastructure and will provide technical quality assurance and value engineering to civil maintenance and new construction in order to ensure no impact to people, planet, or community, as well as reliable production.
In addition to the traditional Civil/Structural Engineer responsibilities, the Martinez Civil Engineer takes on distinct involvement in the responsibilities generally reserved for Reliability engineers. This provides broad exposure and experience that spans the balance between pure civil structure assurance and broadened understanding of other aspects of the refining business.
  • Inspect and repair civil assets based on established strategies while incorporating improvements and best practices into the site Civil Master Plan.
  • Develop, implement, and execute dedicated Civil Infrastructure Programs.
  • Effectively utilize Manage Threats and Opportunities (MTO) work process in order to ensure right work is executed at right time.
  • Specific facilitation of the MTO work process for one of the refineries Production Areas
  • Provide quality technical assurance and value engineering to all new construction.
  • Sustain safe and reliable existing civil infrastructure via optimal strategies for inspection and maintenance
  • This position supports Operations, Routine Maintenance (RM), Non-routine Maintenance (NRM), Capital Project and Turnaround teams.  Your work will consist of reactive engineering solution development, proactive identification and mitigation of civil/structural threats, dedicated infrastructure programs, technical assurance and value engineering application of engineering contractor’s design.
  • Work with all other disciplines in order to develop comprehensive solutions for issues affecting civil (MOC plant changes, etc.).
  • Develop in-house engineered solutions.  Work with external civil designers as required.
  • Develop and optimize assigned asset care strategies including maintenance plans, life extension, and end of life assessment/planning.
  • Drive the prioritization and execution of assigned infrastructure programs.
  • Own relationship and manage civil Mitigate Threats and Opportunities (MTO).  Expectation is to develop and progress a realistic MTO portfolio and align stakeholders on prioritization and status.
  • Participate and lead (as needed) risk assessments and build business case justification for budgetary spend
