The Manage Hydrocarbon Inventory Finance Process is deeply integrated with the Hydrocarbon Management Business Process. HM/MHI processes are the core activities of Shell’s Downstream and Trading Business.

The HM/MHI process operated in Finance Operations is covering the Financial reporting of hydrocarbon margin and working capital (movement reconciliation, stock recording and reconciliation [incl. refinery mass balance], stock valuation, movement reconciliation and exchange valuation.

The hydrocarbon process transactions are of significant high value and critical in nature of this in financial reporting. This underpins our ambition and people strategy to support the vision of a simplified, more automated and standardized process supported by a small cadre of hydrocarbon experts located in each of the key FO centres. These expert group need to be recognized as of strategic value to Finance and with career paths, rewards and recognition to support.

To develop, maintain and sustain knowledge in the operations team related to the HM/MHI process, the business context as well as the financial accounting implications of the transactions a central team within FO Hydrocarbon has been established, the FO Hydrocarbon Excellence team, combining existing Process Owner, Process Architects, Process Experts roles in Finance Operations and T&S Finance.

The HM/MHI Chemicals Process Expert is member of a global team of HM/MHI Chemicals Process Experts. This team provides highly valued day to day and strategic support for sustaining and continuously improving execution of key finance processes - working closely with Operation managers, MHI and HM Process Owners and Architects, Process Users, as well as IT specialists.

The process excellence team is established to close a gap of structured user support, process design compliance monitoring, driving CI improvements and supporting system changes.

The team will work very closely with the Chemicals Excellence and Finance organization. The HM/MHI Chemicals Process Expert will build strong and trusting relationships with the HM process owner and related community in the Business Excellence teams.

The primary focus of this role is to support the HM/MHI Chemicals process operated in FO-Hydrocarbon, covering the full E2E process scope from order creation, to actualization and settlements as well as mass balancing, stock reconciliation and stock valuation. The role ensures that in the operations teams the process design intent is delivered in an effective and efficient manner.

The role will be expected to support global Chemicals hydrocarbon management. The position will maintain a global network to align goals and objectives between HM Excellence, OTC (Order to Cash) Excellence and Supply Excellence.

Process:
  • Standardize process design documentation in cooperation with the business (Policies, procedures, work instructions)
  • Provide knowledge of process, business models and policy to FO teams performing or being involved with HM/MHI Chemicals E2E processes.
  • Support the Control Design team to establish a global standardized HM/MHI Controls framework for Chemicals and ensure process design meets SOX requirements and process risks are mitigated with fit-for purpose controls.
  • Support the HM/MHI Chemicals PE Lead to establish a consistent process compliance and performance monitoring across centers based on process metrics that are fit for purpose and drive the right behaviors
  • Analyze monthly process performance metrics to monitor compliance and consistency with process design across centers.
  • Manage the yearly review of Global and Local WI and related documentation.
  • Support the PE Lead in investigating in significant CCI and BCI
  • Support the PE Lead in engagements with External Auditors, SIA, GRA in pre-audit phase
  • Review and approve CI Projects
  • Support global improvement agenda in particular supporting the Business and Process Owner to establish a process governance structure that meets the requirements of the business and process design intent covering the full range of process metrics, controls, organisational design, process documentation etc.
  • Align Chemicals GSOM model with established Streamline GSOM used in P94.
  • Move the Chemicals HM organization to one standard RASCI across all regions.
  • Support the Pennsylvania Chemicals Project to embed established standard processes and controls especially in the area of Settlements and Stock Reconciliation.
System:
  • Manage testing of system change solutions
  • Help Develop Integrated Support Model for Chemicals Business
  • Work closely with FCCD and Process Owner on key projects with system implication by contributing to the design of the “to be process”
  • Identify/Implement opportunities for automation using new robotics technology
  • Work with IT to implement system enhancements for Settlements for Invoice and Goods Receipts verification. Also implement an enhancement to ensure first time right for invoice recording.
  • Embed GSOM requirements in the current system in order to align Chemicals with Streamline GSOM.
People:

  • Provide robust process onboarding, training and upskilling
  • Support PE Lead to develop Process specific Job competence profiles and required tools for competence assessment
  • Maintain the Knowledge Management for the process. Manage the change management process regarding any updates to Knowledge Management Standard (KMS)
  • Develop standardized RASCI to be used globally for the end to end HM processes within the Chemical’s organization.
  • Help develop network of super users and align Chemicals support model to established ISM within Streamline.
Help develop standard ways of working in order to align with stated Business Goals.

Required Qualifications

 
College Degree in Finance
Has related experience to Finance and Accounting
Preferred experience in Process Excellence or Continuous Improvement projects that has significant impact to the business
Good stakeholder management and business partnership skills
