Reporting to the director, wholesale sales, you will have the responsibility for ensuring continued growth of our western Canada business by leading business development for refined petroleum products in new markets, and with new product service offerings. You will also lead wholesale’s Aboriginal initiatives and will handle the reseller customer segment as well.

  • Manage relationships for a portfolio of large and complex key customers (revenues greater than one hundred million)
  • Evaluate and strategically align integrated opportunities and implications on various aspects of our business while ensuring our success
  • Act as the primary interface between sales and operations, taking a lead role in ensuring the customer value and sales integration process is functioning as designed
  • Manage our wholesale Aboriginal business portfolio, including all documentation, strategy, and tactics, while ensuring progress towards our social goals
  • Develop and continually update strategic segment studies for wholesale, and recommend changes to our segment tactics and strategic focus
  • Lead the execution of go to market strategies
  • Liaise with internal groups to develop integrated strategic account lists, optimizing for maximum returns and within the defined supply constraints of light oil supply
  • Responsible for achieving all operating and financial objectives within the portfolio; use broad knowledge and perspective to manage key performance levers such as pricing, capital, expenses and manpower to meet plan objectives
  • Coach the sales team on sales process and commercial selling skills; you are considered the expert in business development

Required Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of experience in business development or account management, including breaking into new markets, launching new products and developing new or existing customer segments
  • Exposure to oil and gas, wholesale refined products or commodity related sales
  • Non-authoritative leadership experience
  • University degree, preferably in commerce or engineering
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Skilled at handling request for proposal (RFP’s) process and tenders; strong financial acumen
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills; ability to conduct presentations, influence and foster business relationships with senior level personnel and major customers
  • Deep understanding of aboriginal relationships, communities and history is preferred

Working Conditions

  • Frequent business travel (approximately three weeks per quarter) is required across Canada; no weekend travel is required
  • Occasional, after-hours work may be required during peak times
