Reporting to the manager audits and assessments, you will be accountable to support Suncor’s audit program and operational excellence management system (OEMS) by acting as an auditor in assessments at our oil sands (base plant and in-situ facilities) and Fort Hills operations.


  • Support the planning and execution process of audits including corporate audits, by coordinating or helping with scoping, execution and post-audit governance activities
  • Scope and plan audits to achieve specific objectives
  • Identify systematic causes of issues identified in an audit and associate the cause with business processes that have generated and permitted the issue
  • Lead the planning and execution of audit stewardship and reporting activities, ensure audit database is maintained and records are kept up-to-date, and oversee stewardship actions amongst audit team members
  • Apply statistical analysis in order to develop effective audit testing procedures
  • Support maintenance and continuous improvement of the oil sands audit and assessment process
  • Coordinate and facilitate the process for the development of quality corrective action plans.
  • Manage the execution and coordination of annual OEMS self-assessments
  • Apply business intelligence and problem solving techniques to analyze and solve complex situations and assists management in identifying practical solutions

Required Qualifications

 
  • Five to eight years' of auditing experience; preferably in the oil and gas industry
  • In-depth understanding of auditing processes through knowledge and experience of the requirements in professional auditing standards such as the institute of internal auditors (IIA) and/or ISO 19011
  • Expertise in the areas of environment, occupational health, safety, process safety, facility operations, reliability and maintenance, emergency response, our business processes and systems and related technical engineering programs preferred
  • Deep understanding of legal requirements, stakeholder commitments and contractual obligations to ensure accurate and consistent interpretation and further integration into audit process and methods
  • Degree in engineering, finance or business preferred

  • Highly motivated to achieve the best results and deliver the most value, with strong leadership and project management skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk management concepts
  • Sound negotiation and influencing skills
  • Understanding of a management system, standards and supporting processes and practices, their application, interactions and dependencies from each other
  • You enjoy developing solutions that conform with Suncor’s Operational EMS and support the business in a way that is simple and fit for purpose

Working Conditions

  • This role can be either situated in Fort McMurray or Calgary
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and deadlines
  • This position may require some travel
