Job ID

  • Be accountable for the mentorship, career development and performance management of two to three Suncor project and plant engineers
  • Manage a portfolio of projects by utilizing company accepted project execution methodology, ensuring these are met successfully, safely, on time and within budget
  • Provide technical review and owner’s perspective to projects executed through alliance and partner engineering firms
  • Provide refinery turnaround support, ensuring turnaround engineering work packages are completed in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Offer support during the plant turnaround window
  • Lead the development of the annual engineering projects budget for the assigned refinery area in cooperation with operations area team lead
  • Be responsible for the professional authentication of mechanical engineering packages for the projects and plant engineers that are assigned to the area

Required Qualifications


Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Seven years of engineering experience in a refinery, petroleum/chemical processing plant, or Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) environment with a focus on project execution
  • Experience working in multi-disciplined environments (e.g. process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and/or civil)
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Civil Engineering
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills that allow you to collaborate effectively to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Preference for:

  • Strong technical engineering skills, including familiarity with applicable engineering standards (ASME Sec VIII, B31.3, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of project management principles and work processes
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • A self-starter with high level of motivation
  • Strong organizational, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs, particularly during peak turnaround and project periods
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands and strict deadlines
