Our operations turnaround team in Fort McMurray is looking for a strong leader to identify and lead all factors that are critical for the safe execution of the assigned area turnaround, including planning, scheduling, project controls, logistics and field execution. Reporting to our director, turnaround execution, you will lead the turnaround core team through all stages of the turnaround process from concept planning to scheduling, contract strategy, contractor kick off, execution, close out and lessons learned.

  • Deliver top tier safety results by guiding the environmental health and safety (EHS) function to partner with the field execution leaders
  • Utilize the expertise of supporting groups and ensure that work is completed in compliance with our plans, policies and procedures
  • Ensure procedures, training and safety programs are in place for the delivery of a safe, on time, on budget turnaround
  • Influence key turnaround event decisions including contracts, quality, safety, budget, materials and services, schedule and work execution and, scope addition, deletion and challenges
  • Utilize contractors’ knowledge and experience to improve our safety performance, optimize turnaround plans, schedules and execution activities
  • Participate in the development of goals and objectives for employees and contractors and ensure effective interaction between all departments
  • Develop and manage an estimate to cost effectively deliver the turnaround event on budget

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of experience in a leadership role; supervisory or management experience within operations and maintenance is preferred
  • Experience with commissioning, start-up and shut-down, and turnarounds
  • Project management experience or designation is an asset
  • Technology diploma, engineering degree or trade certification
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Proficient with Primavera schedules (P6)
  • Computer proficiency specifically in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Knowledge of the plant, facilities and all equipment within an operating plant
  • Strong and effective leadership skills with a strong focus on safety and continuous improvement
  • Adaptive work style, and can handle multiple priorities and challenging demands in a high-stress, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to implement systems, procedures and standards required for excellent safety performance, reliability and integrity
  • You easily collaborate with diverse partners, handle conflict and have strong decision-making processes
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • The shift schedule is a regular Monday to Friday, but during turnarounds, you will work a modified work schedule to align with the turnaround schedule
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
